L'autoconfiguration sans état (RFC 2462) ne demande aucune configuration manuelle des machines, une configuration minimum pour les routeurs et aucun serveur supplémentaire. Elle se sert du protocole ICMPv6 et peut fonctionner sans la présence de routeurs.
